The following information is provide by reading and interpreting the regulations and information provided on the South Carolina Department of Insurance website. FOR EXISTING LICENSED PRODUCERS WHO MISSED THE MAY 1 AND JULY 1 DEADLINES:
Resident Producers:
1.) Complete the required
minimum hours of 24 hours of CE to include 3 hours of Ethics.
2.) Pay your CE Administrator
Recordkeeping Fee ($15.00) at
www.Prometric.com/SouthCarolina
3.) Pay your Department
of Insurance Renewal Fee ($25.00) at
www.doi.sc.gov
4.) Pay your $50.00 penalty
to Reinstate your license to the Department of Insurance.
Non-Resident Producers:
Nonresidents may reinstate a license by submitting the recordkeeping fee to Prometric,
if it has not been paid. The producer must also pay a $50 penalty fee to the South
Carolina Department of Insurance. Once the Department notifies Prometric that the
penalty has been paid, Prometric will process the payment and do the home state
status verification.
Proof of completing the necessary hours and paying the recordkeeping fee must be
received by Prometric, and the $50 penalty fee must be received by the South Carolina
Department of Insurance by 5:00 p.m. November 1, 2010. must pay the recordkeeping
fee to Prometric and the $50 penalty fee to the South Carolina Department of Insurance
by 5:00 p.m. November 1, 2010.
After that date, resident and nonresident producers whose licenses have lapsed will
have their license and qualifications canceled. In order to regain licensure the
resident producer will be required to pass the state licensing exam and meet all
requirements to become re-licensed. Nonresident producers will be required to reapply
for licensure.
NEW CONTINUING EDUCATION REGULATIONS
BEGINNING MAY 2, 2010:
With the new Continuing
Education (CE) rules now in effect it is imperative that each person know their
own personal CE Compliance deadline. Once again, the new CE compliance date
is determined as follows:
FOR EXISTING LICENSED PRODUCERS:
Odd Year Compliance (2011):
If you were born in a
year ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 your have an Odd Year Compliance date. You must meet
all CE Compliance Requirements by the Last day of your Birth Month.
You must have 12 hours of CE to include 3 hours of ethics, pay a $12.50 license
renewal fee to the SC Department of Insurance and pay a CE Administrator Recordkeeping
fee of $7.50. Once this has been done you will be compliant until 2013 at which
time you will return to the normal compliance regulations of 24 CE hours etc.
Even Year Compliance (2012)
If you were born in a
year ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 your have an Even Year Compliance date. You must
meet all CE Compliance Requirements by the Last day of your Birth Month.
You must have 24 hours of CE to include 3 hours of ethics, pay a $25.00 license
renewal fee to the SC Department of Insurance and pay a CE Administrator Recordkeeping
fee of $15.00. Once this has been done you will be compliant until 2014.
NEWLY LICENSED PRODUCERS IN 2010:
If you were issued your
first license in 2010 you will receive at least 2 full years
to meet the CE compliance requirements. According to the South Carolina Department
of Insurance, if
you were licensed in 2010 your Continuing Education (CE) Compliance Date will be
as follows:
Odd Year Birth Date: (year ending in 1,3,5,7,9):
The last day of your
birth month in the year 2013
Example: Your birth date
is January 20, 1975 your personal CE Compliance Date is January 31, 2013.
Even Year Birth Date: (year ending in 0,2,4,6,8):
The last day of your
birth month in the year 2012
Example: Your birth date is January 20, 1976 your personal CE Compliance Date is January 31, 2012.
